I got a new Mac mini last week. This is an amazing computer. It's a 6.5 sq. in. 2 inch tall box packed with everything you would need in a computer at home. Intel Core Solo 1.5 GHz processor, 1 GB DDR RAM, 60 GB hard disk. The external interfaces include 4 USB 2.0 ports, 1 firewire, 1 DVI (with DVI->VGA adapter), analog and optical digital audio in/out, bluetooth, WiFi. It comes loaded with Mac OS X. It also comes with the remote.
This is an update to my older blog entry about my gadget wishlist.
Now there is one more model available from Canon that is placed right in the middle of 20D and 1D Mark II. It is 5D which also has a full frame CCD and other goodness of 1D except for some cut corners (like resolution of 12 megapixels) to reduce cost. This one is available for about $3300 which doesn't look so bad. I just might get this one :-)
I got a new thing to play with yesterday. I bought a new cell phone. Audiovox SMT 5600. It has all the bells and whistles that you get on a regular cell phone. But this phone is more than that. It's a smart phone. That means I can use it as a PDA. And it comes with Windows Media Player 10. This phone also has a miniSD card slot. I just checked on the internet that now miniSD cards come in 1GB size too. I just ordered one from zipzoomfly
Yesterday I received my bluetooth wireless headset. This is a cool device. It weighs only 25 grams and fits nicely over the ear. Setup was very simple. I was able to 'pair' this device with my Bluetooth enabled cell phone (Nokia 6820) in less than 2 minutes.
I don't know somehow even though I'm a gadget guy I have never even had as much as curiosity to look at the iPod... let alone put it on my wish list....
I bought a new GPS bluetooth navigation system (Navman 4410) about 6 months back. Now after using it for a while I'm realizing there are differences in the quality of Map data that the GPS software uses. The Navman GPS I have uses map data from Teleatlas. Most other popular GPS vendors use map data from NAVTEQ. Navteq has a sort of monopoly in this area. So they charge a premium. Even google maps uses data from NAVTEQ.
