In the world of desktops everyone is talking about Linux market share (non-existent to negligible) but Linux is becoming omnipresent in other segments... from Supercomputers to Smartphones to embedded devices.
In fact many of you are running Linux at home (sometimes even unaware that you are doing so!)
If you have:
- a set-top box from the likes of Verizon, Comcast, Tivo, Dish Network or DirecTV
- a WiFi router from Linksys, Buffalo, NetGear
- a network attached storage
And you use Linux indirectly every time you run any of the Google services (Search, maps, gmail, Picasa, Orkut etc.).
446 of the top 500 supercomputers in the world (check out Top 500) use Linux as their operating system.
